Follow us:
Maasdriel is a municipality to be proud of. Situated beautifully between the rivers Maas and Waal and close to the A2 motorway, it is a great place to live and work. We have strong agricultural businesses, a wide range of entrepreneurs, and an active community of associations.

VVD Maasdriel wants to preserve these strengths and build on them further. At the same time, we recognise the challenges: a tight housing market, too many regulations, rising healthcare costs, and increasing pressure on municipal staff. That is why we opt for clear choices and realistic plans.

Key principles:

  • Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand.
  • The municipality makes fewer plans, but implements the chosen ones properly.
  • The municipality is careful with public funds and keeps local taxes as low as possible.

Our vision for the municipality

VVD Maasdriel believes that government should be small and effective. The municipality must ensure safety, a good living environment, and support for people who truly need it. At the same time, residents and entrepreneurs should be given as much freedom as possible to make their own choices.

Our mission

There is a major shortage of affordable housing in Maasdriel. Young people struggle to find a home in their own village, and older residents often cannot find suitable apartments. As a result, housing mobility comes to a standstill.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

Prioritise housing for residents with a social or economic connection to Maasdriel.

Build what is truly needed: starter homes, affordable owner-occupied housing, and life-cycle-proof homes for seniors.

Regularly assess the needs of each village and involve village councils in this process.

Ensure the municipality works faster and more efficiently, with quicker permit procedures, more digital services, and clear online information about what is allowed and where.

Create more opportunities for dual occupancy, informal care housing, tiny houses, and kangaroo housing on private property.

Under certain conditions, allow permanent residence on suitable holiday parks and provide legal certainty for residents of houseboats and floating homes.

First build for residents with a social or economic connection to Maasdriel.

Entrepreneurs create jobs, provide sponsorships, and help keep villages vibrant. Many businesses want to grow, but space is limited. VVD Maasdriel believes that business parks should primarily be intended for local entrepreneurs.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

An entrepreneurs’ service desk with one fixed point of contact at the town hall.

Preserve small-scale business parks near village centres and upgrade them where necessary.

Use the Poort van Maasdriel business park primarily for local companies and high-quality services, not for large distribution centres.

Reduce regulatory pressure and speed up procedures, so entrepreneurs have more time to focus on their business.

Provide room for modern, sustainable farmers and horticultural businesses, for example along the Veilingweg.

Strengthen the connection between agriculture and recreation, such as farm shops, rural campsites, and small-scale hospitality.

Further develop recreational areas such as De Zandmeren and Strandbad Well, with high-quality hospitality facilities and strong safety standards.

In Maasdriel, everyone should feel safe, both during the day and in the evening. Crime, organised crime, and drug-related nuisance will be tackled firmly.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

Increase visible supervision by the police and municipal enforcement officers (BOAs), including in the evenings and at weekends.

Use cameras in a smart and targeted way in areas with high levels of nuisance or crime, within the legal framework.

Take a tough approach to drug-related premises and recover clean-up costs from offenders.

Promote active neighbourhood watch initiatives and WhatsApp groups in cooperation with community police officers and BOAs.

Acknowledge the importance of labour migrants, while preventing pressure on liveability in residential areas. Housing should therefore be primarily provided by employers, on a small scale, safe, and for their own staff, with strict enforcement against illegal room rentals and overcrowding.

Recognise that Maasdriel already contributes significantly to asylum reception. There should be no permanent asylum centre (AZC) in Maasdriel; within the legal framework, VVD Maasdriel will seek to prevent this.

The costs of social support (Wmo) and youth care are rising sharply and take up a large share of the municipal budget. VVD Maasdriel wants high-quality care for those who truly need it, combined with a system that remains affordable.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

Reduce bureaucracy around Wmo applications and work as much as possible with local providers.

Place greater emphasis on prevention, such as healthy weight programmes for children and physical activity initiatives for older residents.

Provide one clear point of contact for residents who need care or support.

Treat social benefits as a temporary safety net; participation is the norm. Those who can work or receive benefits are expected, where possible, to give something back, for example through volunteering or training.

Maintain the possibility of municipal tax relief for residents on low incomes.

Reduce regulations and make permits for associations and events easier to obtain.

Introduce a low-threshold, digital events service desk.

Hold annual consultations with young people and a children’s council to discuss their ideas and concerns.

Pay extra attention to basic skills, alongside education in English, technology, and IT.

VVD Maasdriel aims for a green and clean Maasdriel, while preserving the open river landscape. The energy transition must be feasible and affordable.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

No new large wind turbines in the municipality; offshore wind is more appropriate.

First place as many solar panels as possible on the roofs of businesses, agricultural buildings, and municipal properties.

Allow small-scale solar fields only if they fit well into the landscape and have local support.

Permit small wind turbines on private land at agricultural businesses, subject to conditions.

Preserve the gas network as much as possible; no forced “gas-free” policies.

Allow residents to bring bulky waste and green waste to the recycling centre free of charge up to a certain limit, possibly supplemented by free home collection.

Take a strict approach to illegal waste dumping, including the use of cameras at problem locations where necessary.

Raise maintenance standards for public green spaces in villages to keep them cleaner and better maintained.

Encourage greener gardens and the collection of rainwater using rain barrels.

The A2 is often congested, causing traffic to divert through villages, leading to nuisance and unsafe situations. VVD Maasdriel sees the car as a necessary means of transport in our rural area, while also striving for safe cycling routes.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

A sound solution for the widening of the A2, with less noise and without additional rat-running through village centres.

Keep heavy freight traffic out of village centres and better direct it via provincial roads and motorways.

Dedicated cycle paths along busy roads, especially on school routes.

Safe “kiss & ride” zones and pedestrian crossings near schools.

Accessible pavements and crossings for people with disabilities, wheelchair users, and parents with prams.

Preserve the ferry connections across the Maas and Waal rivers.

The municipality of Maasdriel should remain independent and manage its own affairs effectively. At present, the organisation is handling too many projects at the same time and relies too heavily on external consultants.

VVD Maasdriel wants to:

Proceed step by step: first complete ongoing projects, and only then start new ones.

Hire fewer external agencies and invest more in in-house expertise.

Critically review cooperation within regional organisations and bring tasks back if the municipality or the market can do them better or more cost-effectively.

Improve public services through clear language in correspondence, longer opening hours, and good digital accessibility.

Involve village councils more seriously and explore whether they can be given formal advisory rights.

Ensure that property tax (OZB) increases do not exceed inflation; the municipality should first make savings before asking more from residents.

Use reserves for one-off setbacks, not for structural expenditure.

Commission only those studies that are truly necessary and opt for quick scans where possible.

Actively make use of provincial, national, and European subsidies.
